Re: Roy Barraclough From Coronation Street Dies, Aged 81
Sunderland's very own band, The Toy Dolls must have been fans of Coronation Street and Alec Gilroy.
Indeed they sang TWO songs about him!
One when he left Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear) called Alec's Gone and the other called Alec's Back, when he returned of course.
Here is Alec's Gone:
And the lyrics to Alec's Gone:
Out in the courtyard, cold & it's so hard
Now Betty's crying, she wants to die
Coz it's over, die, but she...
Knows that her grieving, it's not achieving
What Bet's believing, he will return
[Chorus:]
Alecs gone, Alecs gone, Alecs gone
Alecs gone, Alecs gone, Alecs gone
Away oo oo oo gone away oo oo ooo
Down in The Rovers, Bet can't get over
What he said to her, he will return
Alecs gone...
He's gone, done a bunk [guitar bit]
Betty's still dreaming, inside she's screaming
Out for the day that he will return
Alecs gone...
And here is Alec's Back:
He'll never know why he let Betty go
through the tears, he threw
the years away, oh
So long ago and he still needs her so
Alec's back oh, but Betty's gone
And I'm so blue, and I can't see
What I can do, Betty.
Dark and its cold with no Betty to hold
In the Rovers, its all over now, oh
Too late to know, if she still needs him so
Alec's back oh, but Betty's gone
And I'm so blue
and I can't see
what I can do Betty
[Guitar Bit]
and I'm so blue...
Alec's come home but Alec's still alone
No pretending it's the ending now, oh
We'll never know more of this tale of woe
coz Alec's back oh, but Betty's gone
