More Goldilocks Planets Found
More Goldilocks Planets Found
I see that they have found eight more planets orbiting other suns in the Goldilocks Zone.
The Goldilocks Zone simply put is the distance from the sun that could possibly support life.
Too close and any water would just boil away and disappear.
Any further away and it would be far too cold.
Having liquid water is thought to be essential for life.
These new planets found could also be rocky and therefore may have water.
Up to now, scientists have just recently been able to discover if the stars (suns) have planets orbiting them.
They cannot yet tell if they have water but who knows, they may do in the future.
I find it quite amazing that we have actually come this far.

Re: More Goldilocks Planets Found
We need to get on with our neighbours if we are to survive the next 100 or 200 years.
I can see great advances if we do survive as a race.
What I am waiting for is the first radio signal from outer space being detected.

Goldilocks planets indeed
If that's what the scientists are calling that zone then good luck to them

The bairns love anything like this.
They are always watching the science programmes on the telly.
They switch between the science, history and wildlife channels all the time.

Re: More Goldilocks Planets Found
Its a good description all the same.
In 100 years time these scientists will be able to tell which of these planets are roccky, with water and which ones have a breathable atmosphere suitable for humans.
Getting to them, or rather working out how to get to them, will be another 1,000 years after that.

I might have the day off today!

Its actually a very interesting subject. The mind boggles when we think of the distances involved.
